What is CBD?
Hemp vs. Marijuana
For starters, hemp and marijuana are two different plants from the same family: Cannabis. Each plant contains a variety of different compounds called cannabinoids, the two most well-known (and most studied) being THC and CBD. THC has psychoactive effects, which means it can get you high and is found in high concentrations in marijuana plants. CBD is known for its stress management properties* and will not get you high.
Hemp oil extract is an oil that's made from the seeds, stalk, and/or flowers of the hemp plant. It is rich in the beneficial cannabinoid compounds. It should not be confused with hemp seed oil, an omega-3 rich culinary oil made from pressed hemp seeds that does not contain cannabinoids. CBD isolate oil, on the other hand, is an isolated extraction of one particular cannabinoid, cannabidiol.
WHAT IS CBD?
CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol, a chemical compound found in the sativa cannabis plant. CBD is one of more than 100 identified cannabinoids. In recent years, it has been promoted as a treatment for a wide range of health concerns, including anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, seizures, and more.
CBD is available in a myriad of over-the-counter products. Most commonly, it’s sold as an oil, which is extracted from the cannabis plant and tested to ensure its THC content is below 0.3%. This oil can be added to topical creams and salves, gummies bath bombs, breath sprays, inhalables – the list goes on.
PETS AND CBD
Animals have an endocannabinoid system just like humans do. Many people choose to use CBD products on their pets.
